SSEN East Coast 400kV Phase 2
At the Community Council meeting (29th May 2023) members agreed that, rather than duplicating effort we would encourage people to support the Save our Mearns Group which is already up and running. Furthermore, MCC will work with other Community Councils to represent the views of our Communities to SSEN, elected local and national politicians and relevant industry bodies.
The Community Council will be submitting a formal objection and will write to MPs and MSP's serving this area and to the relevant ministers within the Scottish Government. Members will also submit individual objections if they think it appropriate.
It was noted that the preferred route for the pylons will cross large areas of prime agricultural land and are keen to understand the bio security implications of this.
Mearns Community Council has requested a full environmental impact study from SSEN. We will share this when received.
For information, there is a supposition that the works at Edzell are related to this project, this not the case. The work there is to support an upgrade to the current transmission system (the one that goes through Drumtochty Glen).
